Are you familiar with Florida's Requirements for a legitimate contractor?
To protect yourself as a homeowner and those seeking professional construction contracting services, it is important to familiarize yourself with Florida Laws of a legitimate contractor. Florida has very strict regulations in place to protect from fraudulent people posing as contractors:
1) All Contractors must hold an active Florida Contractors License or a Local Certificate of Competency with the County and City they wish to operate in.
2) All Contractors must carry active General Liability Policy. Make sure the contractor you hire carries a valid policy, and that their policy is valued to cover the project.
3) All contractors are required to have their license number posted on all forms of advertisement ie; Business card, T-Shirts, Websites, Social Media, Vehicles.
Hiring anyone posing as a Professional Contractor puts you at risk of not receiving the service you are seeking. Do not put your property, safety or your assets at risk!
Report unlicensed activities with your local city and county code enforcement and report all unlicensed contracting to the state DBPR.
